You just do your job, yeah, you know what I mean. I don't understand this hero stuff that America has to have because the only heroes are the ones that are on that wall. The rest of us were just doing our job, that's all. I've looked at many avenues to stop the hurt and the guilt and the pain. I went to the wall about eight years in a row. Kept looking for something. Never on Memorial Day. Never with crowds around or anything. So it was an eerie yet special place and those guys talk to you. .....was quite a spot. I....the last trip I made there was in 1995. I left all my medals there because I thought that's where they belonged.
But I still had....I still had things to do. Like I said, I went back to Vietnam and.....in 2005 and tried to atone to those people for some of the things that myself and our government created on them. Visited many pagodas, a lot of....lit a lot of incense and said a few prayers. Talked to some folks....they don't hate us. But I'm still looking for peace, I don't know if there's....... I think a part of you is forever lost.
But.....there's gotta be a landing zone somewhere. That we can go on from. You'd think we'd be there by now but still a lot of guys that haven't found their way home, I don't think.
