When we went up to Quin NhonQui Nhon, or Quy Nhon is a city on the coast of the South China Sea in central Vietnam. It was a U.S. naval station and military base during the Vietnam War.
< http://www.answers.com/topic/quy-nhon >, we went about 14 miles North we evacuated a village up there. And we brought on men, women and children from that area, took them south to Quin Nhon. Cause had they been left there they would not be alive after it. Because they would have been slaughtered.
It just made me feel, it made us feel good that we were doing some constructive stuff rather than just damaging, blowing up, and killing. We were also saving and salvaging. You see a guy, looking similar to a Huck Finn with a stick over his back with a knotted bag on it with his life’s possessions. Everything he owns. And there's his wife and 2 or 3 kids or whatever, getting on our submarines. And that's all he has in this entire world. And you think back of home with your tape-recorders and your stereos and your car, and your clothing, and all the stuff that you have, that we like to have in America. And you figure, this is what this guy has. And it’s all he has. And it just kinda brought it home that a lot of the old timers always talk about World War II being, 'well that was the big war.' I say, well, this might not be the big one, but this is real. There are people getting killed and there is real red blood flowing just like there were in the other conflicts you know. It’s a shame that man has to always settle our problems that way. But that seems the way history seems to go.
