A plaque was placed on Bascom Hill at the University of Wisconsin to
honor a quote from UW President Charles Adams which described the University
of Wisconsin's dedication to the freedom of education. The plaque was
donated to the University by the graduating class of 1910. The quotation
is from the Richard T. Ely case of 1894.

Named for Raspberry Bay in Lake Superior, this one room schoolhouse
was built in 1896 by three Scandinavian families in Bayfield County's
remote northern tip. Now restored to its 1906 appearance, Raspberry
School symbolizes the importance Norwegian immigrants typically placed
on education.
