Gallery: The Blizzard of 1947
A strong winter storm in January 1947 brought nearly two feet of snow and paralyzed southern Wisconsin. The snowstorm, its impact and Milwaukee's response to the storm were captured by photographers from the Milwaukee Journal during and following the storm.

High winds formed deep drifts that stopped Milwaukee's famous trolley buses, and stopped cars on the streets. The east side, closest to Lake Michigan saw the worst drifting.

It took several days for plows to re-open the streets and Milwaukeeans to shovel side streets, sidewalks and driveways. The Blizzard of 1947 was one of the worst storms to affect Wisconsin during the 20th Century. gallery>>
